Crownshire University to Applicants: Do Not Take an Expensive Loan for a Degree That Costs a Few Hundred
The Crownshire University Bursary has issued a warning to applicants. Several people have reported being contacted by loan brokers offering to finance the tuition of a Crownshire University online degree at figures in the tens of thousands. The online degree costs £600 to £900 in total. There is nothing there to justify a large loan.
"If a broker, an agent or an intermediary offers you a five-figure loan to pay Crownshire online fees, they are either mistaken or dishonest," the note says. "Do not sign anything. Contact us."
The Bursary restates the real cost: a semester fee of £200 to £400, paid two or three times, with fee assistance for students who need it. None of this requires borrowing at broker rates.
The note explains how the scam works. An intermediary presents themselves as an official partner, quotes a large "tuition" figure, and offers a financing plan with fees and interest. The applicant pays the intermediary; the university never sees the money and has no such fee.
Crownshire does not use agents who charge students, does not outsource admissions, and accepts fees only through the university portal. Applying online is free.
James Whitfield, in Manchester, nearly signed. "The paperwork looked official," they said. "Then I checked the fees page. The whole degree was less than one month of the loan repayment. I reported the broker."
Applicants who have been approached, or who have already paid an intermediary, should contact the Bursary. The university will confirm in writing what is actually owed and will support anyone pursuing a refund from a third party.
Staff across admissions, registry, teaching and student services are told to design every process as if the default student is studying after a full day's work: recorded sessions, published rubrics, named advisers, and a library desk that does not close at the end of one country's office hours. Crownshire will not pretend a program is light. Applicants should plan their weekly hours before accepting an offer and ask direct questions at the open webinars if a page reads as vague.
Crownshire University is a UK university built for ambitious learners, online or on campus. Founded in 1953 and recognised by the Office for Students, it publishes news that is operational rather than ceremonial: what changed in a program, who can apply, how assessment works, how fees work, and how students get help. Questions about the claims in this article should go to the office named as author above.
